Birgitte Smedegaard and Sine Weis Damkjær are creative women with good stories on their mind. They have set out along life’s road. And their aim is to experience. For even though the one who follows a straight path arrives first, the one who takes a detour has a more interesting story to tell.
The two women qualified from the School of Architecture in Aarhus, Denmark, and since 1993 they have run the design studio Designduo (formerly Smedegaard & Weis). Here they create designs that appeal to the head and the heart, give joy and stimulate aesthetic pleasure. In their everyday lives, paper is so wonderfully simple and is of great importance for their sketches, rough designs and models, although the two creative women cover a wide field and work with many different materials. They greatly appreciate it when a material becomes more beautiful with the passing of time, as for example teak, which gradually patinates in lovely silver-grey nuances. As individuals they have a zest for life and a collector’s curiosity – observing, examining and looking for connections. On their eventful path through life they allow themselves to be captivated by the wonderful places of the world – but if asked about their favourite place, they do not hesitate for a moment in saying that the best place of all is where they are right now.
