New furniture added to Skagerak’s Georg collection
Skagerak’s award winning line of furniture, Georg, is growing bigger with several new functional solutions for the home – characterized by the interplay between a confident Nordic expression, the demand for high quality materials and a minimalist approach. Among the new Georg members, you find the two-legged desk and the screwless coat stand; both of them at ease when leaning comfortably up against the wall, without taking up too much space in the room.
The Danish design company Skagerak has expanded the product line Georg and added bar stools, a drawer, a desk, a coat stand and a dining table to the collection. The newest additions to the collection designed by Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm bear the same stamp of the serene predilection for a Nordic expression, and yet they contest the consumers’ expectations in a mischievous way.
The desk is designed in a simple but functional style and with its only two legs it will lean to any wall and create surface for working in even the smallest rooms and corridors. The dining table also testifies that sometimes small changes can yield big results. A subtle choice of moving the legs further under the tabletop results in a solution paving the way for more dinner guests seated comfortably around the table. Similarly, the coat stand solves in its modest simplicity a spatial challenge in the hallway, as shirts and trousers can go on hangers, while you can hang your scarves and jackets on the little bumps on one leg and your bag on the hook on the other.
A young but proud collection
Despite Georg’s yet short life, the new furniture in the collection comes in the wake of several years of acknowledgement and upholding on the international design scene. The Georg Stool was the first to attract attention when it last year was announced winner of both Innovative Design at the Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt and the Red Dot Product Design Award 2014. A couple of weeks back, it was Georg Mirror’s turn to reap honors winning a German Design Award 2016 in the category of “excellent product design – furniture”, given its candid but remarkable appearance.
CEO of Skagerak, Jesper Panduro, is proud of the collection’s ability to create a stir abroad and knows that it also brings high expectations for the future. Therefore, he says, “It is crucial that the honest craftsmanship and the desire to create products that live for generations, continues to represent the core framework for our business”.
