ØsterGROis the first Danish farming community created on the roof of an old car auction building in Copenhagen.
In April 2014, an early spring morning, 110 tons of farming soil was delivered on the roof of the auction house. It had been prepared with new foundation and edges by carpenters apprentices from the tecnical school of Copenhagen.
All the locals were invited to join the force and with the help from over a 100 neighbors and volunteers, the field was laid within one weekend. They were now ready for ideas and seeds to grow, and today Østergro is a functioning vegetable field, with beehives, greenhouse, egg laying chickens, rabbits, compost, outdoors kitchen and not the least happy days.
Vegetables, eggs and honey is distributed to the 40 members and Østergro is taken care of by two of the promoters, one employee and many of the engaged members and volunteers.
Østergro is a grounding experience and we love when visions are wisely translated to reality. Thank you Østergro.
