Proper usage and maintenance
Proper usage and maintenance is vital for getting the most out of the valuable resources we have. Our designs are made to last for generations, but just like everything else, they need a little care to get there.
Terracotta is a beautiful looking type of earthenware formed by low-fired clay. Terracotta means “baked earth” in Italian and the pottery technic can be traced all the way back to the ancient Greece.
Edge pots are hand-thrown and burned in the kiln. The colour shade and surface of the product can vary slightly from time to time. In that way, each pot is totally unique.
Cleaning and maintenance
Over time, the product will gain a beautiful patina on the surface. However, if you wish to maintain the original look, wash it in lukewarm and soapy water. Wipe afterwards with a dry cloth. Be aware that terracotta is a fragile material. Always take care when moving the pot around. Before re-potting it is advisable to make a drain that will allow for excess water to leave the pot. Place a small piece of fibre cloth at the bottom of the pot in order to prevent the hole from clogging. Then place a layer of hydrograins. To optimize the drain, finish with a small piece of fibre cloth before adding the potting soil. Always use potting soil as normal soil is too heavy for the pot.
This product cannot withstand freezing temperatures and should therefore be stored in a garage, cellar or the like. To avoid frost damage, make sure to empty the pot and turn it upside down before storing it.
Note: Do not place on wooded surfaces or the like to avoid spots on the surface.
About the designer / Stilleben
Like the art phenomenon it derives its name from, the design duo Stilleben (’still life’) represents a combination of elements that come together in a harmonious whole. Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Nordentoft have achieved the same harmonious resonance. The two ceramicists met at The Danish Design School, and shortly after graduation they had the idea for the shop Stilleben, which carries carefully selected craft and design objects for the table, the home and the wardrobe. Today, Stilleben is a trend-setting and internationally recognised gallery in the heart of Copenhagen, driven by a clear sense of aesthetic, quality and passion.
